When riders have been taking lessons regularly, they may develop an interest in entry level competitions. We call these competitions Academy shows. The Academy division was started to encourage riders to start showing. Academy riders typically ride stable owned horses; they do not have to own their own horse. This is a great way for riders to learn how to compete at shows and see if showing horses is right for them. There are a number of horse shows that offer Academy classes for riders to show in either walk-trot-canter or walk-trot only. Classes are often divided up by the age of the rider, or sometimes they are divided by the experience of the rider.
